Like Ones Who Dream

Like Ones Who Dream

“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes, Lord, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.”

Psalm 126

Have you ever had a dream and then in some miraculous way it came true? Did you change career? An addition to your family? A disease or cancer cured? In Psalm 126, we find that the Israelites are rejoicing, they described themselves as like ones who dream. Most likely, the time that it is referring to is the return of the Jews to their homeland, through a release from captivity from Babylon, granted by Cyrus. Being freed from captivity and allowed to return home was a like a dream come true!  The Israelites were rejoicing, singing, and their mouths were filled with laughter. Sometimes the Lord does allow our dreams to come true or visions revealed to others, preparing them for great things.

Dreaming

The Lord had restored His people, brought them home, and the people praised the Lord by saying He had done great things for them. When I read this first line, I paused because the Lord does bring restoration. We are like ones who dream because the Lord has provided a way for us to see our dreams come true one day. Yes, we may have some of our personal dreams come true here on earth, but the Lord has already freed us from captivity. When the Lord sent His son Jesus, He made a way for us to be freed from captivity as well. Through a personal relationship with Jesus, we have access to God and a future secured in Heaven one day.  We can know that the Lord has done great things when He provided a way for us to be with Him one day in Heaven.

Restoration

God gave John a great vision of full restoration in the book of Revelation. This restoration was no longer temporary freedom, but an eternal reign in a new Heaven and earth. In this reunion, we are with brothers and sisters in Christ. We no longer experience any of the evils of this world.  The Lord gave John a vision of Heaven and what it would be like. One day our wildest dreams will be answered and enjoyed! God gives us all an opportunity to see this dream. God did not leave us here to suffer, but He sent His son Jesus to die for our sins and one day he is coming back! Do you know the Lord? Do you know the Creator of Heaven and earth? If you do not know the Lord, I encourage you to seek the Lord and know Him as your Lord and Savior, because one day He will allow those who believe in Him, to be like ones who dream.
