“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:10
“Remember who you are and whose you are!” This was a phrase used often by mother-in-law to her four boys. It was a reminder that their identity was in Jesus Christ, who gave His life so that we can be with Him in Heaven. She reminded them that because they were followers of Jesus, they should be following Him. My husband grew up playing baseball. When he put on the uniform, he was no longer just Arron, he was #7 on the Riverdogs. As children of God, we also wear a uniform. Many times we are called to play different roles to achieve His goals, by leading others to Him and to stand up for what we know is the truth.
Identity
Wearing the uniform makes us recognizable by the world by what we say and do. In a world where many can find themselves asking who am I? What is my purpose? What is the point of my existence? The Bible says God, our Creator, fashioned us to do good works, He has a purpose for each of us! God loves us! He wants to see us succeed from the baseball game you play to the corporate mergers you lead. God reminds us in the Bible that we have our identity, a role on His team. To be successful, we have to follow Him and His playbook. We can find answers to questions we may ask about what to do, who to marry, where to live, where to go to school, what kind of friends to have, how to raise kids, and more in His Word.
The Game Plan
God did not create us and leave us, He planned and purposed for us to be together again one day. But for now, our Coach calls us to play in the outfield reminding us to always be looking to Him. While looking to the Lord, He will tell us when to move, what plays are in the future, and when to watch out for the pop flies in life. We can trust God for our identity because He has great plans for us! God has the playbook and remember we are on the winning team! Are you looking for identity? If so, then seek no longer, God will never leave you or forsake you! On God’s team, you will meet other brothers and sisters in Christ who can testify of God’s work in their lives. Come to the home plate and meet the best life coach you will ever know, His name is Jesus Christ and He came to seek and save the lost! God will give you an identity, and you will always be reminded that you know who you are and whose you are!
