Bright Paths

“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun,

    shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;

    they do not know what makes them stumble.”

Proverbs 4:18-19

Our morning commute to school is brightened by looking for the sun to come up. As it begins to peak over the horizon we see more and more of the light. My youngest daughter looks forward to the moment when she can see the sun begin to peak out and her mood is more cheerful.

In Proverbs 4:18, the path of the righteous is described as starting out as a small light growing as the sun comes up. I could not help to think that one day in Heaven that Jesus will our light! We will have no need of the sun because we will be forever dwelling in the presence of the Son! Our days here on Earth can be filled with joy and sadness but for those traveling on the righteous path it is brightened by the Son, and the journey can be eased.

In 1 Corinthians 13:12, we are told that here we only “see” in part but will one day “see” in full. We may not know why we face the trials we do today, but we can be encouraged that remaining on the path of righteousness allows us to one day to see the Son in full. One day in Heaven, we will see how the Lord carried us through even when we may not have known it then.

The darkness is the counterpart to the light. It offers nothing and seeks to isolate and frighten those in its presence. A pathway in darkness leads those in a slow descent to a dead end. Those on this path are hindered by the darkness and leaves them without hope. A path like this is filled with pain and turmoil. Those who choose this path are not following the Lord. One day, their eternity will look far different.

How can one change paths from the darkness to the light? They look to the Lord, who will one day provide the everlasting light. If you are on a dark path, call out to the Lord and seek Him. Pray and ask the Lord to forgive you of your sins, turn you from the path you are on and ask the Lord to be your Savior. If you place in trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life, you will find a new path with a new partner! The Lord will show you where to go until one day, you will live eternally in the light with the Lord!

Looking at the sun rise each morning, I am reminded that the path of righteousness is a path worth following. Is there someone today you need to remind them to look to the Lord? If so, remind them that the Lord is waiting for them to take the path of righteousness where each day the path gets a little brighter!
