“But our citizenship is in Heaven, and from it as we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 3:20

Driving to school this morning, we were blessed with the most amazing sunrise! It was as if Heaven was coming down out of the clouds! Beautifully colored mountains appeared and the road we were on aligned perfectly with the horizon to lead us towards Heaven. This vision of color, clouds and sunrise was enchanting and felt as if the path we were on would lead us straight to Heaven’s gate!

I began to think about how it felt to approach Heaven, to have it in sight ahead of us. Getting excited, I drove a little faster, hoping that maybe this would truly reveal Heaven’s gate. Turning off the road, the view shifted, it was dark, scattered clouds formed, and we were surrounded by foggy mists. Similarly, my speed decreased, my excitement lessened. I was surrounded by the world, which was now absent of the light that was so glorious. Many are on a path without light, some know it and like it. Some have no idea that if they were to change course, they could be on the path that will lead to Heaven’s gate.

Watching other cars pass by, gave me pause. Did they know the Lord? Did they know that this amazing view was just around the corner? How often do we encounter someone from the grocery store to the workplace and do not share what the Lord is doing in our own lives? Are we sharing the ways in which the Lord is showing His goodness to us in our lives? Are we asking those around us if they attend a local church? If they know the Lord? Looking ahead at the view of Heaven, can be distracting because while I am looking ahead, there may be those headed in the opposite direction, who are passing right by me. Am I stopping to ask them about their belief in God, to see if I can pray for them? Every day that the Lord gives us we are to do our part for His kingdom, here on Earth, until He returns. One of the most exciting things we may see in Heaven will be those we stopped and shared Jesus with, the Savior who died on the cross for our sins, who rose again and returned to Heaven! Jesus is waiting for all those who believe in Him to one day be in Heaven! What an exciting day it will be, when Heaven is not only in view, but the gates are open and we see the Lord!
